Wildacres Writing Workshop Scholarships

Two scholarship opportunities are currently available for 2020.

Wildacres Diversity Scholarship

Wildacres Writers' Workshop's Diversity Funding is made possible by select Wildacres alumni and Tar River Poetry. You can apply for a full tuition scholarship or partial funding.

Applications open Feb 1, 2020. There is no cutoff deadline, but early applicants have the best chance. Applications will be considered as they come in.

To apply:

Applications are accepted via Submittable. You will be required to submit a writing sample. For poetry, include three to five poems; for flash fiction, three to five stories. For novel, short story, or creative nonfiction, include no more than 3000 words.

Wildacres Experience Fiction Scholarship
Funded by an alumnus who would like to remain anonymous. "I have attended workshops all over the country, including Hawaii, and Wildacres is the best. It's a great learning experience and an outstanding community of writers."

Requirements for applicants:

  • Age: 21 or older.
  • Not a previous Wildacres attendee.

To apply:

Submit 6 to 10 pages of double-spaced prose, with your name and contact information (address, phone, and email address) on all pages. Your prose must be current, unpublished work, saved in one of these standard file types: pdf, doc, docx, txt, rtf. E-mail your materials to scholarships@wildacreswriters.com with the subject line "Wildacres Experience Fiction Scholarship" no later than April 30, 2020. Please include a paragraph or two in the body of your email explaining why you are a good candidate for this award.

You may not apply for this scholarship AND also send money as a paying attendee. If you do not win a scholarship then you may apply by sending in an application and a deposit. Please be aware that space and faculty will be limited by that time. In fact, there is always the possibility that we will be full. (This year's scholarship winner will be announced on May 15, 2020.)
