Jason Mott

Novel Workshop

Jason Mott‘s most recent novel, People Like Us, was a New York Times bestseller and was listed as one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Must-Read Books of 2025. His other novels are The Wonder of All Things, The Crossing, The Returned (adapted for ABC television as “Resurrection”), and Hell of a Book, which won the 2021 National Book Award for Fiction. He has also published two poetry collections, We Call This Thing Between Us Love and “...hide behind me…”.

A National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellow, Jason holds a BFA in Fiction and an MFA in Poetry, both from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where he also serves as an associate professor in the Creative Writing program. He lives in southeastern North Carolina.

Course Description

Our five classes will consists of a mixture of theory and writing exercises. We will spend at least one class discussing how to outline/structure novels, with following classes being a mixture of workshopping, writing prompts, and discussion focusing on elements such as Character Creation, Point of View, Novel Revision, and more.
