Founder and Former Director
Judi Hill started Wildacres Writers Workshop in the mid 1980’s. At that time it was a small group, (less than a dozen) meeting on the mountain to write and retreat. In just a few short years Judi grew that group to over 100 people, filling Wildacres Retreat to capacity with writers from all over the U.S. and some from abroad. She did what Judi has always done best–created a place where other people could shine.
Judi was a published writer and a staple in the arts community in her home of Greensboro, NC. She was the director of Wildacres Writers Workshop until stepping down in 2020. She passed away in 2023 leaving a legacy of inspiration, creativity, and purpose. She has touched the lives of hundreds of writers through the magical space she created for them at Wildacres Writers Workshop. Her encouragement and inspiration is at the heart of innumerable published works from a vast variety of authors all across the world. She created a space for writers to blossom and lifelong friendships (and sometimes marriages) to grow. We call it the Magic Mountain, and it really is.
“Thank you” isn’t enough. We’ll keep it going, Judi.
